The March issue of The Fenway News includes a thoughtful review of “The Myth of Normal: A Celebration of Authentic Expression,” written by Ward 4 member Mary Ann Brogan. In celebration of the 150-year anniversary of Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the exhibit showcases the works of the school’s alumnae/i and their artistic journeys. Collectively, they ask “where we are today and where we’re going as a society,” Mary Ann writes.
Three thematic zones encompass “architecture as an extension of the body and a bridge to internal perceptions. As the exhibit continues, the works reflect struggles with racism, homophobia, and classism. The exhibit then expands into art that reflects struggles in our wider world, the pressure to conform in a toxic world, and the presence of world conflict and life-threatening diseases.”
“The Myth of Normal” runs through May 19th at the MassArt Art Museum, 621 Huntington Avenue.
