With the general election only a few weeks away, we wanted to share information on YES on 5, a ballot committee that we believe aligns with Democratic values and could be a huge crucial opportunity for Massachusetts to improve the lives of tipped workers.
One Fair Wage Plus Tips MA Committee (YES on 5) has been leading the charge to raise service workers’ wages and end the subminimum wage for tipped workers. We need your urgent support in the fight for fair wages for tipped workers in Massachusetts.
Despite years of attempts to advance wage-increasing legislation in the Massachusetts legislature, progress has been stagnant. As a result, One Fair Wage gathered signatures to place the One Fair Wage initiative on the November 2024 ballot. This initiative aims to increase tipped workers’ wages from $6.75 to $15 an hour, plus tips, which would affect restaurant employees across the state.
Recent national polls indicate that the rising cost of living and the need for jobs that provide living wages are primary concerns for youth voters, Black voters, and Latinx voters this year. By placing this issue directly on the ballot in Massachusetts, One Fair Wage not only aims to not only address these voters’ concerns by ending the subminimum wage for tipped workers, but can also mobilize tens of thousands of new, unlikely voters in November.
