Remembering Joan Klawans Wood, Former Ward 4 Chair and Community Activist

Family and friends gathered at La Casa on Saturday, July 11th to celebrate the life of beloved South End architect, community organizer, and Red Sox fan, Joan Wood. The program warmly notes that Joan was “a fierce advocate for women’s equity and racial justice [who] chaired the Ward 4 Democratic Committee for many years, dragging her children to soooo many political events and Election Day polls.”

Remembrances were plentiful and heartfelt.

City Councilor Miniard Culpepper presented Joan’s family with a commendation that highlights Joan’s work in “championing affordable housing, neighborhood preservation, and engagement…to advance racial justice, school integration, voting rights, and equal opportunity. Her enduring legacy of service, leadership and unwavering commitment to building stronger, more inclusive communities will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.”

Thank you, Joan. The Ward 4 Dems treasure your legacy.
